How long it takes.
How long it takes to get a sauna, from order to first session.
Most garden saunas go up in one to four days. The wait before that is the long part: from a few days for a sauna in stock to six months for a bespoke build. Here is a realistic timeline, and what dozens of sellers say about their own lead times.

What slows things down
- Planning. If your sauna needs permission, add the council’s decision time. In Ireland the planning authority generally has eight weeks from a valid application,1 and in England most applications have an eight-week time limit,2 longer if more information is asked for or there is an appeal.
- The electrician. Book early: a long cable run, a new fuse board or a three-phase upgrade can take weeks to arrange.
- Access. A prebuilt sauna that needs a crane depends on the crane’s diary and a dry day.
- Cross-border delivery. Freight between Great Britain and Ireland adds customs paperwork.
- Custom options. A different timber, a glass front or a changing room can add weeks.
How we wrote this page
Prices, sizes and lead times come from each seller’s own website. Every one links to the page we read, and we last checked them on 22–29 October 2026 for the Olladay sauna industry directory. Prices are the lowest listed for that product, before delivery, base and electrics unless the seller says otherwise, and can change at any time. Lead times are quoted as each seller states them; some describe manufacture, some delivery and some the whole project. Spotted something wrong, or sell saunas and want your prices checked? Email us.
Olladay makes booking software for saunas. Nobody pays to be listed or ranked on these pages, and the tables are in price order, not in order of preference.

Questions
How long does it take to build a sauna?
Installing a garden sauna takes one to four days on site. The wait before that is longer: in-stock saunas ship in days, most made-to-order saunas take 4–12 weeks, and bespoke builds can take three to six months.
How long does a barrel sauna take to assemble?
Usually a day for two people with the instructions, or a few hours for the seller’s fitters. Allow longer for a porch, roof shingles or a wood stove flue.
When is the best time to order a sauna?
Autumn and winter. Lead times are usually shortest then, and the sauna is ready before spring, when demand peaks.
Can I use my sauna straight away?
An electric sauna can be used once the heater is connected and certified. Follow the heater maker’s first-heat instructions; a wood stove usually needs a gentle first burn to cure its paint.
