What 300 places at €15 cost a month

The same month on each system, with the card fee included so Periode’s all-in rate compares fairly. We’ve assumed standard Irish debit cards and Stripe’s published rate of 1.5% + €0.25 where a tool uses Stripe.

Quick picks

  • You pay the fee yourself and you’re busy: Session.
  • Unstaffed cabins on Inlet locks: Periode.
  • The platform should cost you nothing: Wunderbook or bookedout.ie on cheap seats, or Olladay if you want the fee shown in the price.
  • Treatments and one-to-one appointments too: Acuity Scheduling.
  • Fewer than 50 bookings a month: Bookwhen’s free plan.
  • A studio with yoga, fitness and contrast therapy under one roof: Momence.

Session

Session (bookasession.org) is built only for saunas and cold plunge studios, and most of its venues are in the UK. It handles shared sessions, private hire, several session lengths, memberships, gift vouchers, per-guest waivers and a waitlist. It charges the venue 0.5% of each paid booking, capped at €90 or £100 a month, and adds nothing to the customer’s bill; Stripe’s card fee is separate (Session pricing). Community and non-profit saunas can ask about partnership terms through the Community Sauna Network.

Best for saunas that pay the fee themselves. The cap keeps a busy month at £100 (€90) at most, which no other percentage-based sauna tool here matches, and community saunas get their own terms. Watch for: booking pages sit on bookasession.org, and its site doesn’t list texts to guests, smart locks or heater control. See Olladay vs Session or the UK version.

Periode

Periode is a Norwegian sauna booking system that also sells in Ireland and the UK, and says it serves more than 250 businesses. It charges per booking with card processing included: in Ireland 3.5% + €0.25 on debit cards, 3.9% + €0.25 on credit and premium cards and 5.25% + €0.25 on non-Irish cards, and in the UK the same percentages + £0.20. Texts are €0.10 or £0.10 each. It says the percentage falls as your volume grows but doesn’t publish the steps (Ireland, UK).

Best for unstaffed and self-service saunas. Periode works with Inlet and Lokalkontoret locks and describes pre-heating through Inlet, and one rate covers card processing, so there’s no separate payment account to run. Watch for: even with card fees added to the others, its published rate is the highest per booking here, and payments run through Periode rather than your own Stripe account. See Olladay vs Periode.

Wunderbook

A Dublin booking app for wellness and fitness businesses: saunas, gyms, Pilates and yoga. The venue pays nothing; customers pay a 2% booking fee (Wunderbook). It has memberships, packs, gift cards, a waitlist and a consumer app where people find venues near them.

Best for Irish venues that want the platform to cost them nothing and like being listed in a discovery app. On seats under €24.50, its 2% is a smaller customer fee than Olladay’s €0.49. Watch for: the 2% is added at checkout rather than shown in your timetable price. See Olladay vs Wunderbook.

Acuity Scheduling

A US appointment scheduler owned by Squarespace, and the booking tool we found most often on Irish and UK sauna websites. Plans are $20, $34 or $61 a month, or $16, $27 or $49 billed yearly. Packages, memberships, gift certificates, waitlists and text reminders start on the $34 Standard plan (Acuity pricing).

Best for venues that also sell one-to-one treatments with staff calendars, and businesses already on Squarespace. A flat plan can also cost less than a percentage in a very busy month. Watch for: paying the full plan in months you’re closed, and private hire that blocks a shared session isn’t a listed feature. See Olladay vs Acuity.

Bookwhen

A UK booking system for classes, courses and events. Plans go by bookings a month: free up to 50, then €12 for 300, €19 for 800 and €39 for 1,800, plus VAT (Bookwhen pricing). Card processing is charged by your payment provider.

Best for small timetables that fit the free plan, and venues running classes or workshops alongside the sauna. Watch for: the plan steps up as bookings grow, and private hire that blocks shared seats isn’t a listed feature.

Momence

An all-in-one platform for studios, gyms and spas, with branded mobile apps, memberships, packs and marketing tools. Momence doesn’t publish prices; its pricing page asks you to talk to its team (Momence pricing).

Best for multi-discipline studios, such as yoga, fitness and contrast therapy under one roof, that want their own branded app and marketing in one place. Watch for: you can’t compare the cost without a quote, and sauna-specific features such as private hire from a shared pool aren’t listed.

bookedout.ie

An Irish booking system for sauna and wellness studios that says it was built by a sauna owner. It’s free for the studio, and its site says “we add a 2% fee to the customer” (bookedout.ie).

Best for small Irish sauna studios that want a sauna-minded tool at no cost to them. Like Wunderbook’s, its 2% is a smaller customer fee than Olladay’s €0.49 on seats under €24.50. Watch for: your customers pay the fee on every paid booking, and the site publishes little about card processing.

Olladay

We make Olladay, so read this one with that in mind. It’s built for saunas and cold plunges in Ireland and the UK. On Free for you, the venue pays nothing and customers pay €0.49 (£0.45) per paid place, inside every price shown. Or the venue pays 1% instead, with no cap, and the first 50 founding venues pay 0.5% for life. There’s no monthly fee. Shared seats and private hire from one pool, minimum to run, storm closures, per-guest health terms, packs, memberships, vouchers and waitlists are included. Olladay Pro (€39 or £35 a location a month, €390 or £350 a year) adds heater control, a door code per booking, texts, a card reader, Xero and QuickBooks, and Viator and GetYourGuide. Each Pro feature is switched on for a venue once its hardware or partner account is connected (pricing).

Best for saunas that want the platform to cost them nothing with the fee shown in the price, or want to choose who pays. Watch for: it’s new and has no public reviews yet. If you pay the fee yourself, Session’s capped 0.5% costs less than our 1%. On seats under €24.50, Wunderbook’s and bookedout.ie’s 2% is a smaller fee for your customer.

How to choose

  1. Work out your paid bookings in a typical month, and in your quietest one.
  2. Price each option at both, card fees included.
  3. Decide whether your customers should ever pay more than your timetable price.
  4. List what you need today: private hire, packs, memberships, vouchers, waivers, door codes.
  5. Ask how you’d leave: can you export customers, bookings and balances for free?
